ABOUT
Bridge Red Studios is pleased to present "Jacksonfive" curated by Yanira Collado + william cordova. A group exhibition by five contemporary artists from Jackson, Mississippi that includes painters Sherrell Ford and Sabrina Howard, modern dancer Doshia Collins, and filmmakers Christopher Windfield and Talamieka Brice.
The five artists are part of a Peer-to-Peer program Collado created during her 2023-2024 tenure as artist in residence at the Center for Art and Public Exchange (CAPE), within the Mississippi Museum of Art. The program included workshops with professional visual artist/activist Chire "VantaBlack" Regans, filmmakers Tarell Alvin McCraney and Eddie Brown, photographer/videographer Michiko Kurisu, interdisciplinary cultural practitioner william cordova, and contemporary dancer Ivy S. Bennett.
The exhibition features meditations on community observation, historical and community-based individuals, and minimal staging performances. Multi-disciplinary chronicling of Southern life is showcased through large-scale sculpture, production stills from documentary works, and short films exploring social themes of gender, race, equality, and family.
Special thanks to artists/Directors Kristen Thiele and Robert Thiele for their vision and ongoing support of the South Florida Art community.
